Subject: Jack Petchey Foundation's Listen Up Survey
From: The Jack Petchey Foundation
Posted: 29 May 2010
As part of the Jack Petchey Foundation's tenth anniversary celebrations we are undertaking a survey of youth attitudes - this survey is called "Listen Up".
We need your help with this...
We want to know what the young people at Croydon Amphibians Swimming Club think about a whole range of different subjects including education, work, politics, health, ambitions and hobbies.
The survey results will be published in a Jack Petchey Foundation report, "Listen Up", which we will use to make sure that people in positions of influence and power, understand and react to what young people REALLY have to say and think. In this election year, it is more important that young people's voices are heard.
How can young people give their views?
All of the young people at Croydon Amphibians Swimming Club that are aged between 11-25 can complete the "Listen Up" survey by clicking on the following link:
www.surveymonkey.com/s/ListenUp
You can also can access the survey through the "announcements" section of the Jack Petchey Foundation website.
It will take a maximum of ten minutes to complete and when you have submitted your survey you will be invited to enter a prize draw to win an IPOD TOUCH!!!
We really do need your help, - just ten minutes of your time will make a huge difference.
Many thanks
The Jack Petchey Foundation Team

Subject: CASC AGM - Saturday 10 July 2010
From: Karen Parker
Posted: 16 May 2010
Dear Parents/Members
The date for this year's AGM has been set for Saturday 10 July and formal notice will be issued shortly.
At the end of the AGM all current members of the Committee will, as required by the
constitution, resign from their posts. All posts are available for nomination save for that of
the Chair who will be nominated by the retiring committee. A description of all committee
roles is on the Committee page of the CASC website and existing committee members will
make themselves available to give details of the roles they currently hold. All of the retiring
Committee members may stand for re-election at the AGM.
The following is a timetable of events leading up to the date of the AGM:
1. Nominations:
On 17 May the Club Secretary will advertise via the CASC website that nominations for
Executive Committee can be made. Nominations can be made until 6pm on Friday 11 June.
A nomination must be proposed and seconded and made in writing to the Club Secretary on a
Nomination Form that will be available from Squad Reps or downloadable from the CASC
website.
Completed forms must be handed to the Club Secretary in person and not sent by e mail.
Nominees, Proposers and Seconders must all, be Members of the Club (see below).
Nominees will be asked on the nomination form to confirm their acceptance of the
nomination and be asked to provide a short resume of their skills and suitability for the post.
It is also our intention to seek nominations for a number of other posts which, while not
committee posts, are very important to the smooth running of the Club. These include the
posts of: Social Secretary, Sponsorship/Fund Raising Secretary.
Parents are invited to shadow an existing committee member during the next twelve months
to see what the job entails as a way to encourage involvement at a future date.
According to the Rules of the ASA and the CASC Club Constitution, attendance at the AGM
and eligibility to vote at the AGM is for members of CASC only. In order to be a member of
CASC and eligible to vote an adult must also be registered with the ASA. In addition there is
an adult CASC membership fee. The cost of adult membership (of the ASA and CASC) is
£5. Applications for adult membership should be made to the Membership Secretary by 31
May. Fully paid up swimmers of CASC who are aged over 16 may attend the AGM and
vote. Parents are not entitled to vote on behalf of members under the age of 16 and must
become members in their own right.
2. Notice of AGM:
The Club Secretary will circulate to all members and the families of all swimmers in the
Club, by e mail, Notice of the AGM, details of nominees for Executive Committee posts
(including their statement of suitability), an agenda for the AGM and a copy of the Annual
Accounts by 18 June.
3. AGM:
The AGM will take place on Saturday 10 July 2010. On the day of the AGM, the
membership secretary will have a list available to him of all members entitled to attend the
AGM. No other person will be permitted access to the meeting.
If anyone has any queries about the Nomination process, please speak to Club Secretary
Karen Parker. If anyone has any queries about the Membership process please speak to Daryl
Nurthen.

Dear Members
I am writing to advise you that we have temporarily appointed two new members to the CASC committee. This follows the recent resignation of Sally and Jason Dubben who due to other work commitments no longer feel able to continue in their respective committee roles.
Kathryn Bachen joins us as Welfare Officer and Moira Brooks joins us as Swimming Secretary. In view of the proximity of the AGM the decision was taken to co opt these volunteers on to the committee positions now and then it will be open to all members to put themselves forward for nomination for these and any other post at the AGM in June. I would like to thank Kathryn and Moira for stepping in at such short notice.
I would also like to thank Sally and Jason for their efforts throughout their time on the committee and particularly their endeavours to help the club achieve Swim 21 status in 2009.

Subject: Timekeepers Course
From: Karen Parker
Posted: 4 March 2010
We are planning to run a Timekeepers Course in April/May. The course will be held at Whitgift during the evening and will consist of a 60-90 minute theory session delivered by Diane Gamble.
This will be followed by a practical assessment where you will work alongside an official timekeeper at a gala.
This is an important area where you can assist your club as we cannot run our club championships without officials at all levels. Many of our timekeepers are now training to be Judges so we desperately need to get more parents on board. Please contact Karen Parker if you would like to be involved.
The cost of the course will be met by CASC.

Subject: Squad Training during March
From: Karen Parker
Posted: 23 February 2010
Dear Parents
Some adjustments have been made to the training schedule throughout March.
Whitgift Pool is unavailable due to a gala on Thursday 11 March and there will be no training available on this date for any swimming squad although Water Polo will still run as normal.
On Saturday 13 and 27 March the sessions will run as follows:
Bronze Squad - normal training times
All other squads - training available between 10-11.30am.
This is due to the numbers of swimmers competing in the Surrey County Championships.
On Thursday March 4 and Monday March 15 there are school galas at Whitgift which are due to finish at 6pm. It is hoped that this will not impact upon our training times but there occasionally is a delay accessing the changing facilities.

Subject: ASA Competitive Performance Awards
From: Chris Hatton & Jackie Tonks
Posted: 31 January 2010
Dear Parents,
CASC is pleased to announce the relaunch of Competitive Performance Awards for all swimmers. The following is an extract from the ASA about these awards.
These awards, developed in conjunction with the British Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association (BSCTA), can be achieved in competition or organised time trials held at school or at a swimming club.
Highly respected, the awards give coaches, clubs, county, regional and national organisations an indication of a pupil's ability, competence and potential. The performance awards help young swimmers to focus on their strokes, turns and finishes, as well as speed. The awards can be used by clubs and squads as improvement indicators for group progressions.
Achieving an ASA Gold Standard should provide young swimmers with a good chance to swim in competition at county level.
Please note: Swimmers should be encouraged to acquire good skills in strokes, turns and finishes before they are asked to swim quickly. Achievement of the Swimming Stroke Awards is encouraged to confirm this level of competence.
Swimmers can check whether they have reached the times required by reference to the chart using the link below and their times on the PB sheets. Once you have reached the time then you just need to contact Jackie Tonks on the email address below the chart and arrange the purchase of the badges. The first order for these badges will be at the end of February so please ensure you contact Jackie before 25 February.
You may wish to sew your badges on to your club T shirt.
Full details can also be accessed from the Squads page.
Regards
Jackie Tonks

Subject: Adverse Weather Conditions
From: Karen Parker
Posted: 6 January 2010
Dear Parents
This winter we have had to make alternative arrangements for training and have also cancelled sessions when adverse weather conditions have either made it unwise for parents to travel to sessions or coaches have been unable to reach the pool.
I see that snow is again forecast for our region this week and I would like to advise you of the arrangements that we will put in place if a session needs to be cancelled or changed.
Wherever possible email notification will be sent out to all parents but please note that this could be very late on in the day as we could face a situation when either snow could fall late in the day or roads can improve if snow has fallen early.
If possible the website will also be updated but this very much depends on the availability of the webmaster.
We would ask you:
- To check your emails regularly if there is bad weather
- To make arrangements with friends to call each other if you do not have access to email
- NEVER leave your child at a pool under any circumstances without first checking that their coach is there to receive them (This advice applies generally regardless of weather)

Subject: Arena National Swwimming League 2009
From: Chris Hatton
Posted: 27 November 2009
Dear All
I just wanted to say what wonderful swims we have had in the first and second rounds of the new Arena League this season and how proud the coaching team are of all the swimmers who have taken part so far.
Last year saw us winning Division 1 S/East and being promoted to this year's Premier League. The first two rounds have been very tough but the results have still been startling.
We have seen wins, top 3 positions in races, beating clubs such as Leatherhead, Haslemere, Guildford and Bracknell showing them that we too can fight and compete with the best teams around in the South East of England.
The first round saw David Scott go under the minute for the 100m Fly for the first time which was super to see, the second round saw our girls captain 'Mulkie' hit her NQT at the 50m Free and Catherine Wrench becoming the first ever girl/woman from the Borough of Croydon going under the magic 60 seconds! The experience so far has been super.
However, for the 3rd round we will be competing in Reading. A long way away but fear not we will have a coach (wheels) so team spirit will be ever so important. We will be fighting to stay up and we MUST come in the top 2 on the night.
WE CAN DO THIS SWIMMERS AND PARENTS! But to achieve this, we need all the swimmers cheering for each other at the end of the lanes, banners up, stickers on with face paint!, pom poms flying high and for you all to believe in each other.
We can do this and it is not impossible to do.
TEAM SPIRIT - GUTS - DETERMINATION - BELIEF!
Maria will be emailing you all shortly with the invites. Please confirm ASAP!!!!!
See you at the pool.

Subject: Swine Flu
From: Karen Parker
Posted: 8 July 2009
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
A CASC swimmer is suspected as having Swine Flu. We have taken advice from British Swimming and their medical consultant. The Government policy has now changed and we are being advised that it is not necessary to close down the swimming club.
We are following this advice and the club will remain open as normal. You may, therefore, continue to send your child to swimming or water polo, provided they have no flu-like symptoms. If you or your child starts to develop symptoms that you believe may be swine flu you should stay at home and telephone NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
There is also advice on the NHS website www.nhschoices.nhs.uk
